Osteoporosis Screening Osteoporosis is a systemic disease that can affect different bones to a varying degree. Osteoporotic patients are more likely to sustain fractures particularly of the wrist, spine, and hip. Although many factors contribute to this pathologic conditions, increasing bone strength is one of the most important determinants of fracture risk. Duel energy x-ray absorptiometry or simply DEXA is the most widely used and thoroughly studied BMD measurement method. We are offering this screening in the Krohn Clinic. The device can measure BMD at central or peripheral sites and has an accuracy of 90 to 99%. The screening is noninvasive, painless and it only requires a short period of time. Results are evaluated here in the clinic and patients are treated appropriately after the results are available.
