Hysteroscopy Hysteroscopy is the examination of the inside of the female’s uterus (womb) utilizing a special instrument called a hysteroscope. This test is performed at the hospital following a consultation with a physician at the clinic. Patients are sedated for the procedure, which usually takes forty-five minutes to an hour. Typical indications would be to diagnose the cause of irregular vaginal bleeding and to rule out cancer of the uterine lining. The scope can also be used to biopsy the uterine lining, and to remove retained IUD.
